Common Dental Problems and Their Treatment

Start from what you feel — pain, bleeding, a loose tooth, a gap — and find the likely cause, the guide that explains it, and the treatment at Lifedent Dental Hospital, Rajkot.

  • Toothache, worse at nightદાંતનો દુખાવો

Usually deep decay or an infected nerve; lying down raises pressure in the tooth. Needs a filling or root canal, not just painkillers.

  • Bleeding gumsપેઢામાંથી લોહી

The first stage of gum disease, caused by plaque and tartar at the gum line. Reversible with professional cleaning.

  • Pyorrhoea / loose teethપાયોરિયા

Advanced gum disease where bone around the teeth is lost. Deep cleaning and laser treatment stop it; lost bone does not return.

  • Sensitive teethદાંતમાં ઝણઝણાટી

Exposed root surfaces or worn enamel let cold and sweet reach the nerve. Desensitising treatment, fillings or gum care depending on cause.

  • Bad breathમોઢામાંથી દુર્ગંધ

Most often gum disease, tartar, a dry mouth or decay — not the stomach. A clean and gum check finds the source.

  • Yellow or stained teethપીળા દાંત

Surface stains respond to cleaning and whitening; discolouration from inside the tooth needs bonding or veneers.

  • Cavity or black spot on a toothદાંતમાં સડો

Decay progresses from a white spot to the nerve. Early stages need a small filling; late stages a root canal.

  • Chipped or broken tooth

Repair depends on how much is lost: bonding for small chips, a crown for larger breaks, root canal if the nerve is exposed.

  • Missing tooth

Neighbouring teeth tilt and bone shrinks if a gap is left. Implant, bridge or denture — compared honestly.

  • Loose denture

Bone shrinks under a denture over the years. Two implants can lock it in place; a fixed All-on-4 bridge replaces it entirely.

  • Wisdom tooth painડહાપણની દાઢ

Pain, swelling or repeated infection around a partly erupted wisdom tooth usually means it should be removed.

  • Jaw pain or clicking

Grinding, an uneven bite or strained jaw muscles. A night guard and bite correction help most patients.

  • Difficulty opening the mouth

Restricted opening (trismus) from muscle spasm, a joint problem, infection or oral submucous fibrosis needs assessment, not waiting.

  • Grinding teeth at night

Wears teeth flat, causes morning jaw ache and headaches. A custom night guard protects the teeth.

  • Crooked or crowded teeth

Braces or invisible aligners for children, teens and adults; treatment usually takes 12 to 24 months.

  • Gap between front teeth

Closed with aligners, bonding or veneers depending on the size of the gap and the cause.

  • Gummy smile

Too much gum showing above the teeth. Laser gum contouring, veneers or orthodontics depending on the cause.

  • Receding gums / teeth look long

Hard brushing, gum disease or grinding. Stop the cause first; grafting covers exposed roots when needed.

  • Swollen face from a toothદાંતના કારણે ગાલ પર સોજો

Usually a dental abscess. Needs same-day care; swelling near the eye or trouble swallowing or breathing means hospital now.

  • Mouth ulcer that will not healમોઢામાં ચાંદા

Most ulcers heal within two weeks. One that lasts longer, is painless, or sits with a white or red patch needs an examination.

  • Tobacco or gutka changes in the mouthગુટખા/તમાકુની અસર

Stains, gum disease, white patches and stiff cheeks with reduced mouth opening. Regular examination finds changes early.

  • Swelling in the lip or cheek

A soft, fluid-filled lump inside the lip is often a mucocele; a jaw swelling may be a cyst. Both are assessed with imaging.

  • Dry mouth

Common with medicines and diabetes; raises decay risk. Fluoride, saliva substitutes and closer check-ups.

  • Child with tooth decay or painબાળકોના દાંત

Baby teeth matter for chewing, speech and spacing. Gentle fillings, fluoride and sealants in a child-friendly setting.

  • Knocked-out or injured tooth

A dental emergency. Keep the tooth moist and reach us within the hour for the best chance of saving it.

  • Fear of the dentist

Shorter visits, careful anaesthesia and clear explanations make treatment comfortable for anxious patients.

  • Diabetes and dental problems

Diabetes and gum disease worsen each other; implants are still possible with good control.

Questions Patients Ask First

Severe toothache with swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, bleeding that does not stop, and facial swelling with fever. Call or WhatsApp as early in the day as possible; see our emergency dental care page for first-aid steps.
Not necessarily. When the nerve inside a decayed tooth dies, pain can stop while the infection continues into the bone. A tooth that hurt badly and then went quiet should still be checked.
Photos and X-rays sent on WhatsApp (+91 88663 83383) let a doctor give an initial opinion, but a diagnosis needs an examination. For patients outside Rajkot this helps plan the first visit.
Every six months for most adults and children. Decay and gum disease are painless in their early stages, when treatment is simplest.
