Orthodontic treatment is priced by how much the teeth have to move and how long it takes, not by a fixed rate per patient. That is why two people can be quoted very differently for what looks like the same thing.
What changes the cost
- How complex the case is. Mild crowding is a different problem from a bite that needs correcting, which takes longer and needs closer supervision.
- Treatment length. More months mean more appointments and more adjustments.
- Type of appliance. Metal braces, ceramic braces and clear aligners differ in materials and laboratory work.
- Number of aligner sets. Aligner treatment is planned digitally, and a longer plan needs more sets.
- Preparatory treatment. Extractions, fillings or gum treatment may be needed before orthodontics begins.
- Retainers afterwards. These are part of treatment, not an optional extra — teeth drift back without them.
- Who plans it. An orthodontist assesses teeth, bite, jaw position and facial profile before planning tooth movement.
Braces or aligners?
Cost is only one difference. Aligners are removable and nearly invisible, and suit many cases of crowding and spacing. Braces remain the dependable choice for complex bite correction. The right answer comes from an examination, not from a price list.
What to check in any quote
- Does it include the appliance, all adjustment visits and the retainers?
- How many months, and how often will you attend?
- Who is supervising the treatment?
- What happens if an aligner is lost or a bracket breaks?
