A well-maintained implant can last a lifetime. What decides that is mostly what happens after the surgery — in the first week, and then every day for years afterwards.
The first few days
- Mild soreness for two to three days is normal and is managed with the medicine prescribed.
- Stick to a soft diet and avoid chewing on the implant side.
- Avoid very hot food and drink on the first day.

The healing period
A soft diet is recommended for roughly 8 to 12 weeks while the bone bonds to the implant. This stage is invisible and painless, which is exactly why people rush it — but the bond forming during those weeks is what holds the implant for the next twenty years.
After the crown is fitted
Once the final crown is fitted and integration is confirmed, the implant can take the full range of normal chewing forces.
Long-term care
- Brush twice daily as you would a natural tooth.

Warning signs to report
